Red Dresses and Heels

Finding a good dress is hard and making sure the fit is right is also important! For me, a Bardot style dress shows off just enough without being too much! I found this cute red dress from River Island and paired it with a fun pearl detailed black pump.

You can always swap out a red dress for another dress in another bold color like yellow, royal blue and add a cool heel to make it stand out!

Here are a few alternative dresses that you can still achieve my look for a very affordable remix. Also, let’s give a shoutout to the beautiful Kenwood Neighborhood for the beautiful background, located in Hyde Park this is one of my favorite places in the city!

Bosses & Beauty: GBL Grand Opening

One thing I can say about my family is that we are full of creative women, whether it’s arts &crafts, entrepreneurship, beauty and the list goes on. So when my cousins decided to open their OWN salon and beauty space, I had to support. My cousins Ashley &Tina both came together and put their passions of wellness, glam, and beauty together to make GlamourBeautyLounge! I’m so proud of them and inspired to continue on my own journey of creative success! GBL1gbl21.jpgGBL1gbl1.png

Melanin&Magic: The Monique Rodriguez Experience launch event

I had the honor of being invited to The Monique Rodriguez Experience launch event, and it let me just say it was another life-changing event experience. I know, I can be dramatic at times, but I’m so SERIOUS! I was invited as an attendee, and I was so excited to listen to all the speakers on the Power Panel. Some of the panelists I knew from social media and networking around Chicago, so it was cool to see everyone again!20180217_120445.jpg

The launch was at the Loft Lucia event space in the loop area. It was a beautiful and chic space. The event focused on networking and empowering all attendees, and it did that. Instead of having the usual letting people sit and talk to their friend,s there were activities that encouraged meeting new people, exchanging social media information.

How cute is this packaging? LOVE!

This made everyone get up and get moving. In my experience to drive results, you have to get out of your comfort zone, no matter how hard it is.  I meet a lot of great people who are working towards their dreams and have fabulous ideas!

If you are not familiar with Monique Rodriguez, she is the owner of the brand, Mielle Organics and has turned her love for beauty and health into a health-conscious and glam beauty brand. Mielle, hast the cutest brand packaging and presence and the products, are excellent. (Ya girl is a sucker for all things pink)

All the goodies from my gift bag!

After all of the networking activities the power panel started! Right before the panel began, I got introduced to everyone in the Mielle team, and they were all very nice. In that process, I was invited to join the speakers on the Couch for the Power Panel!! I was shocked because I hadn’t done a panel discussion since college and I hadn’t really prepared to speak that day, AND I was getting over a cold and not to mention that all the women on the panel I look up too !(in my head I was freaking out, yall )

Myself and Youtube star and influencer, Vicky Logan

God saw it fit for me at the moment with no preparation to take part in the panel and it ended up being such an excellent experience! I shared my journey on blogging, fashion and how it’s hard to be creative when no one else understands you. All of the questions we were asked dealt with moving forward when things are hard, and when your passion is not ideal. After the panel, we took part in a poll about how people typically view networking events and how it can affect what they get out of events similar to this one.

The snack table full of Glorious donuts!

It was fascinating because a lot of the feedback was talking about how scary it is to put yourself out there and while that is true, you never know when that will work in your favor. Imagine if I hadn’t come to an event or if I would have refused that invitation to participate in the panel? I would have missed out on an essential development of myself and SweetHeartSwan. It all worked together in my favor!

Event Take-Aways:

Trust the process ( Enjoy the journey and everything that comes along with it)

Follow your heart (You know what you love, and do it)

While running your own race don’t look  back at  what others are doing

Listen to God (He will always guide you in the right direction)

Step out of your comfort zone!

Stay Ready(If I hadn’t been somewhat ready the panel could’ve been a disaster for me)

Review:Aire Ancient Baths

For my best friend Amber’s birthday, she wanted to go to the newly opened Aire Ancient Bath house located in the River West Area here in Chicago. If you are getting an Uber or Lyft there, it will not be recognizable from the building because it’s very hidden.

There are only two in the U.S and the second one is in New York, and it is everything you’ve ever wanted in a Spa experience!

Look at that Airey glow we have after our 1-hour Thermal bath and 1-hour massage!

The Atmosphere is very mellow and relaxing, low light, candles and very tranquil throughout the whole experience. All of your items are locked away in lockers and silence is something that you practice throughout your stay. In our experience, we got 1-hour thermal bath time and a 1-hour massage.

You have a choice between an array of pools, steam room, and salt exfoliation to pass the time throughout the hour time slot. Use this time wisely because it will go so fast and you will want more time. Next up was our hourlong massage and it was absolutely fantastic!

Some Decor from Aire, exposed brick, mirrors very zen!

After the massage was over, we had a little bit more time to enjoy the thermal bath and literally after this day I felt that I could conquer any life obstacle. I plan to try and get to this place at least a couple times a year because it really was everything and then some!

After our experience, you can’t take pictures inside the bath area.

My tips before you go:

Arrive 30 mins before the appointment, to fill out paperwork, time to change and to drink complimentary water or tea.

Bring swimwear and any personal care items.

Be prepared to disconnect, your phones, watches, etc. will be locked away in your locker.

Practice Silence: While you can talk a little bit it’s not really allowed as the point is to meditate and relax.

Experience everything Aire has to offer because you will not be disappointed!

Highly recommend this experience for anyone looking to relax and recover from hectic day to day routines!  If you decided to go let them know you heard about this experience from SweetHeartSwan!

Dinner & Dreams: ORS Dinner Party celebrating Afrobella!

I had the honor of being invited to the 11th year anniversary dinner party for Beauty Blogger Afrobella!  The dinner party was sponsored by ORS  and put together by D.Williams PR!

20171214_204902

The event was beyond Amazing, and I was just in awe that I was in the room. One of the highlights was Afrobella saying to me:

“You’re here because you belong in this room.”

That meant so much because Afrobella has been beauty blogging for 11 years has done so much for the natural hair community and the beauty community.

20171214_202623

The party took place at the beautiful  Blanc Gallery which made the perfect backdrop for this event. Throughout the night we shared our stories about who we are, prayed together and broke bread together.

Detroit,MI (Learn &Grow)

One of my goals for myself and Sweetheartswan was to learn more about blogging, business, and branding! So I looked up conferences that were closest to me in Chicago and stumbled upon The Fashion &Beauty Summit by Posh and Popular!

The summit was located in Detroit, MI which as you all know I just visited in April and to my surprise I had fun. So it’s safe to say I was excited to go back and explore a little bit more. I flew into Detroit on Friday, and the summit took place all day Saturday.

Of course, I ate good (Despite being on a diet plan) I still managed to keep up with my exercise routine while away.

I also got to explore the city a lot more than my last trip.  Of course, I headed back to the place I loved dinner at last time, Central Kitchen+Bar. This time I had the Caesar salad with salmon…..AMAZING! Let’s get into this hotel!! I stayed at the  Greektown hotel, and it was such a fantastic stay. I had the fitness room to myself (I mean who really works out on a mini vaca?)  quiet floor and it was steps from dining and nightlife. Not to mention beautiful decor. Highly recommended.

I got a chance to visit the Charles H.Wright Museum and it was everything, you all know I love enriching cultural experiences. I wanted to go to Kuzzo’s for breakfast the last time I visited but wasn’t able too so I was so excited to go and I was not disappointed. (I couldn’t get the red velvet waffles like I wanted but I still enjoyed my meal )thumbnail (2)

The summit was excellent! SO many fashion savvy,business-minded women who either own businesses or want to and I learned SO MUCH.

I heard sessions with Ebony Swank, who talked about using what you have to start your business! Nichole Lynel discussed her rise to fame and success and how it all was taken away because the situation wasn’t right for HER. I also got the chance to meet  Lyndsay Green who literally created her own brand and outlet for the beauty industry around the world through beauty atlasRonne Brown discussed how she turned teen motherhood into a learning and growing experience that fueled her entrepreneur spirit and her millionaire status.

Also, I was also inspired by the creator of this whole event and blog Posh and Popular, Kim Dobine and her story about why she created the posh and popular brand and what she wanted to accomplish with it and how God helped her achieve it!

(Shoutout to God)

MAJOR TAKEAWAYS:

Trust your Journey

Listen to God

Take that risk and think smart

Overall great trip but an amazing day of learning, networking, and fashion and I’m blessed I was able to attend and will for sure be using everything I learned to further SweetHeartSwan, the brand.

Fashion Note: the dress I wore to the summit is a dress from Zara (Comfy, Comfy and comes in Black!) and shoes from Zara as well!

Have you been to Detroit? Tell me your fave places?
